Message from Ms. Jyoti

Please give a short introduction of yourself.

I am Jyoti from Bikaner city of Rajasthan State in India. I am Indian Railway Employee, presently undertaking Master’s course in Saitama University, Japan on Study Leave from my Department.

What is your favorite thing about Saitama City?

I love the peaceful life & beautiful scenic views of Saitama city, The best part about Saitama city is that it is at less than a hour’s distance from the heart of Tokyo with all its glitter and fancy life and at the same time it has all the natural beauty of Chichibu, Kawagoe & Nagatoro equally close to it.

In what way has your impression of Saitama City or Japan changed since coming here?

Before coming to Japan, the image I had of Japan, was limited to Honda, Sony, Sushi, Buddha & earthquakes. But now after being here for past 9 months I can appreciate that technology here is not only the big names like Honda, Panasonic and many others but it is part and parcel of everyday life, be it vending machines, toilet seats or even Suica card. Japanese food is so diverse as the cooking style & dishes are different in every prefecture. People here as very polite, hardworking, disciplined and proud of their culture & roots.

What attracted you to choose Saitama University as a place to study?

Saitama University is one of the famous university in Japan with lot of international students. It is very close to the Tokyo. One of the university’s most renowned graduates is Takaaki Kajita, who was co-awarded the 2015 Nobel Prize in Physics.

In what way did you adjust yourself to Japanese culture?

Learning Japanese language is one of the way which helps to feel at home here. Then interacting with local people, travelling, enjoying their tradition are few things which widen your knowledge about Japan and it ultimately help one to adjust to it. Although being pure vegetarian, I am not yet able to adjust to Japanese food.

Please give a message to students or researchers in your home country who may be thinking about studying in Japan?

It is a very good opportunity to avail, as Japanese universities are equipped with excellent infrastructure, intelligent & dedicated professors who are very much involved in your studies/ research. There labs are full of resources and you will get a very good chance of practical learning in university and other seminars, conferences, internships you attend while being here. Overall the country is very safe, convenient, humble and a place to learn & enjoy.
