Guideline for Application
1. Purpose
The Program provides scholarships to outstanding undergraduate and graduate students of the following 5 Indian Institutes of Technology (hereafter referred to as “IIT”) who wish to study at the University of Tokyo (hereafter referred to as “UTokyo”) for up to 2 months as an intern student during their period of study with the aim of educating leading individuals who will lay the foundations of a future network between India and Japan.

Applications for the program are submitted by a host researcher (hereafter referred to as “Applicant”) at UTokyo who wishes to host an IIT student (hereafter referred to as “Candidate”).
2. Eligibility
Candidates for the program must:
  1. Be registered as a full-time student in an undergraduate or graduate course of either IIT Kharagpur, IIT Kanpur, IIT Madras, IIT Delhi or IIT Hyderabad.
  2. Be taking a major in Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautics, Electrical Engineering, Information Science and Technology or Robotics.
  3. Not be receiving other scholarships from any domestic or foreign organizations.
  4. Be insured with a proper overseas travel and accident insurance including indemnity liability and medical treatment throughout the period of the intern program. It is the student’s own responsibility to purchase the insurance before leaving the country for Japan once selected.
3. Scholarship Period
Up to 2 months
(In principle, students should conduct the internship during the May-July period.)
4. Number of scholarship recipients
Up to 2 students
5. Scholarship Amount
- Monthly stipend: JPY 150,000 (JPY 5,000 × length of stay)
- Support for travel costs to and from Japan: JPY 50,000
 
Air tickets to and from Japan should be arranged by the Candidate.
Personal expenses during the Intern Program such as travel expenses, housing fees, living expenses, academic related materials costs etc., shall be arranged at the Candidate’s own responsibility.
6. Application procedures

#01. The Candidate (an IIT student) wishing to participate in the program is advised to make a contact with a researcher in their field referring to the faculty search website (see “10.Useful link” below) and obtain an acknowledgement of acceptance by Wednesday, 31 January, 2018.

#02. Application for the program must be submitted to the International Affairs Department of UTokyo by the Applicant (a host researcher) through the head office of the applying faculty/graduate school.

#03. The International Affairs Department notifies the Applicant (a host researcher) of the selection result by early March.

#04. The Applicant (a host researcher) offers the place to the Candidate.

#05. The Candidate accepts the offer and participates in the internship program at UTokyo.

7. Recipients' obligation
- The scholarship recipients shall participate in events planned by DMG MORI CO., LTD., the sponsor of the program.
- The scholarship recipients shall intern at DMG MORI CO., LTD. for about two weeks between the 4th week of June and the 1st week of July.
8. Scholarship suspension/cancellation
UTokyo shall suspend or cancel the scholarship and/or request the candidate to return the scholarship in full/part in the event it becomes apparent that the application had been falsified, the candidate has demonstrated for any reason that they are unsuitable as a recipient or to take part in the selected project, or has withdrawn from/terminated their participation in the intern program.
